My fellow citizens, Today I stand here humbly with the help of the task ahead of us, grateful for the safety you have shown them, in the awareness of the sacrifices made by our ancestors.
We, the citizens of the United States of America, are in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise to all citizens. (PAUSE) I thank President Trump for his service to our nation and for the generosity and cooperation he has shown during his transition. Judge Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, dear fellow citizens, people all over the world: Thank you! You have always tried your best to protect and help this country, but there are still some problems we have to solve. There is hope. I believe we are stronger together. (APPLAUSE) Most importantly: Thank you to our American citizens who have voted for me as their 46th President and the first female President of the United States of America. Without you, I would not be able to bring the positive and much needed change this country needs.
We are in the middle of several crises. Our economy is badly weakened due to several greedy and irresponsible decisions of some but also due to the pandemic. Our health care is too expensive and our schools fail too many, partly due to high costs and little resources. The challenges we face are serious. There are many real challenges we have to face and fight. But this is America: We are stronger together. We will achieve anything. (APPLAUSE)
Way too many people pay way too much money for education. Education is one of the most important things in the world and thus should not require thousands, if not millions of Americans to be in debt. The student debt crisis recently reached $1,771,745,907,844. So many little children dream of becoming doctors, lawyers, engineers – and most of them will not be able to fulfil their dreams if the education in our country continues to be so expensive. We cannot expect poor people to break the cycle of being poor if we do not give them any chance to do so.
They would need to receive a loan but would not be seen as creditworthy to receive such a huge amount of money. We provide over $1 trillion in tax breaks to the top 1% and large corporations and $740 billion for the Pentagon. (PAUSE) Not only is our educational system faulty, but our basically non-existent health care system is also not good enough. People pay $40 for holding their baby after giving birth, which they also pay a lot for. People rather use an Uber to get to the hospital than an ambulance because their fees are ridiculously high. People have to choose between paying rent or paying to stay healthy, they go to work sick and are not able to enjoy their lives without fearing that one little disease or a problem with their health could ruin them financially. America spends much more on health care per capita than any other nation in the world and gets less health for it. Compared to the UK, Canada or Germany, the health care system of our country needs a massive makeover. Many procedures are only done to earn money, not because they are actually needed.
According to a recent study, 45 percent of Americans are worried a major illness could leave them bankrupt, 1 out of 4 Americans skipped needed medical care because they could not afford it, and 77 percent are concerned rising health costs will cause significant and lasting damage to our economy. (PAUSE)
Which leads us to the current pandemic. The previous President’s leadership was poor. Denying the virus, rather playing golf while not caring about the 260,000+ deaths of our citizens, then making the WHO out to be the bad guy was something the president should not have done. Paying up to $2,321 for getting tested in an emergency room did not help fighting the pandemic at all. Apart from that, many people who led small businesses have lost their main source of income due to the pandemic and the poor leadership of President Trump. Sending out one stimulus check of $1200 is not enough to help people who could not go to work for months because of the pandemic or the ones who have suffered under the virus itself. Americans felt helpless, lost and like their state, their country did not care about them. Scientists are rushing to create a vaccine to help us, but who is to say we will be able to afford it? (PAUSE) I would like to change all of this. We care able to cancel all student debt and make public colleges and trade schools tuition-free and debt-free for all. This is my request, my idea to end the student debt crisis.
I would also request a new health care system to make our faulty health care system a better one. 54 years ago, the USA took an important step towards universal health care by passing the Medicare program into law. Today, I would like to introduce a new form of a health care system called “Medicare for All Act”, which would expand Medicare and create a universal health care system. This health care system will provide extensive health care to everyone in our country without out-of-pocket expenses. It would also include vision, hearing and dental care. This would enable all Americans to get the health care they need and deserve. Employers would simply pay a payroll tax just like they do for Medicare now. (PAUSE)
The new health care system would also help fight the pandemic as people would be able to afford to get more tests done. I would suggest getting more tests done in general, make people wear masks in crowded places, maybe have a lock down – but also make sure people will not lose their only source of income and become poor. The senate needs to pass a real stimulus package that provides $2000 a month to the working class and $600 a week to the unemployed. We should make sure businesses could run, but we should not make our citizens fear for their lives if they want to enjoy an evening out.
All my goals will benefit every single American, regardless of their political belief, their gender, sexuality, religion or ethnicity. I will definitely also fight against racism, gender inequality and the gender pay gap. Any type of unfair treatment I would try to prevent. In today’s society, discrimination against anyone should not take place. No one should be judged because of their skin color, who they love, or their religion. (PAUSE) I will conduct a study about racial profiling in the police forces, considering there are many people of color who are treated unjustly by the police force. The gender pay gap is preventable by enabling men to also stay at home to care for children, protecting pregnant women and new mothers and helping them to get back to their jobs more easily. A certain quota system for women would also help. No one should hire people that aren’t qualified but people should not be turned down for being female.
As your first female President, I will try to bring change. If we all work together, we can make this place a better world, there is hope. We are stronger together. (APPLAUSE) I want to be the best President of the United States we have ever had. I want to be the first President who does not make minorities feel like they have to fight for basic human rights. I want to remind you of the civil rights movement in the 1960’s and 1970’s and why it was necessary. As we all know, slavery was not abolished until 1865 but racial segregation was still present until 1964. If it had not been for Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Junior, Malcolm X, and all the other brave people who fought for their rights, we might still have lived in a society in which racial segregation is deemed acceptable. (PAUSE)
Without these icons of the civil rights movements and other activists, we would not have come as far as we have come until now. Getting rid of racial segregation did not result in getting rid of racism. Giving black people the right to vote does not necessarily mean they are being treated as equals. To this day we still have a massive problem with people using their positions to enforce systemic racism. It has only been a few months since a white police officer knelt on the neck of a black man for nine minutes and later on got bailed out without actually facing consequences. Along with other people who died of police brutality for playing with toy guns (Tamir Rice), jogging in their own neighbourhood (Ahmaud Arbery) or simply sleeping in their beds (Breonna Taylor), systemic racism runs deep in America’s society and we have to put a halt to it. I am here to change this. Together, we can achieve this change. Together we are stronger!
Thank you for listening to me and thank you for voting for me to be your 46th President of the United States. And God bless the United States of America! (APPLAUSE)
